A year of political satire

During my time in Stuttgart, Germany, I hope to engage with current affairs and the way they are represented in local media. My primary source is the Stuttgarter Zeitung, which posts a Karikatur des Tages (caricature of the day), proving a running commentary on political developments during my time in Germany (August 2020-August 2021). Most of my posts will be short commentaries on these pictures, discussing how they represent political figures and themes, and what this shows about German culture. I also hope to get the opportunity to explore the history of caricature in Germany by visiting museums and accessing newspaper archives. Although the first few months of my year in Germany have been limited by COVID-19 restrictions, I hope that by the end of the year I'll be able to post some commentaries about a wider range of sources to give an overview of the role of caricature in modern German history.
